Virgin Australia flight crew allegedly assaulted, robbed in Fiji

Fiji police are investigating an alleged assault on Virgin Australia crew members during a New Year’s Eve outing in Nadi.

The incident occurred outside Bar One nightclub on Tuesday night and involved two crew members, a man and a woman. Assistant Police Commissioner Mesake Waqa reported that the man was robbed, while the woman was sexually assaulted.

The man received treatment for facial injuries at a local hospital. Both crew members are currently staying at a hotel in Nadi as the investigation continues.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson confirmed awareness of the incident, stating, “Our focus is on the wellbeing of the team members affected.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also acknowledged the incident but declined to provide further details due to privacy obligations.

Acting Police Commissioner Juki Chew Fong revealed the suspects are locals, but no arrests have been made. He assured the public that police are committed to ensuring a safe environment for visitors during the festive season.

This incident adds to the challenges facing Fiji’s tourism industry. Last month, seven people, including four Australian tourists, were hospitalized after drinking cocktails at a resort.

While tests on drinks at the Warwick Resort showed no traces of methanol, authorities have yet to release the results of samples taken from the poisoned patients, leaving the cause of the poisoning a mystery.
